Title: Why 70g Green Kiwi + 30g Sunflower Butter Works Well for Young Children

**Why 70g Green Kiwi + 30g Sunflower Butter Works Well for Young Children**

This combination was built to efficiently cover several nutrients that are otherwise easy to under-supply in a toddler's diet: vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin (B1), copper, magnesium, and B6.

**Green kiwi** is unusually concentrated in both vitamin C and vitamin K — far ahead of most common toddler fruits like strawberry or banana. At 70 grams (roughly one medium kiwi, peeled), it delivers close to a full day's vitamin K for a 1-3 year old, while providing several times the daily vitamin C need. That overshoot on vitamin C isn't a downside — it's simply a side effect of getting enough vitamin K from a fruit source, and vitamin C carries no meaningful toxicity risk at food-level amounts.

**Sunflower seed butter** is one of the best food sources of vitamin E available, and it's also a strong thiamin, copper, magnesium, and B6 source — nutrients kiwi barely touches. At 30 grams it does most of the heavy lifting for this snack's mineral and B-vitamin contribution.

Together, the two foods complement rather than duplicate each other, with very little nutritional overlap. The combined snack runs around 220 calories.

**What it delivers against the 1-3 year old RDA/AI:**

| Nutrient | Amount | % of Daily Need |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin C | ~70mg | ~464% |
| Vitamin K | ~28mcg | ~93% |
| Vitamin E | ~11.6mg | ~193% |
| Thiamin (B1) | ~0.465mg | ~93% |
| Copper | ~0.63mg | ~185% |
| Magnesium | ~109mg | ~137% |
| Vitamin B6 | ~0.44mg | ~89% |

Moderate contributors worth a mention: zinc (~53%), folate (~57%), manganese (~55%), niacin (~46%), phosphorus (~48%).

**How this compares to a peanut butter + strawberry mix:**

Peanut butter and strawberry is a perfectly reasonable, tasty combination, but it's nutritionally narrower for this purpose. Peanut butter contributes essentially no vitamin C or K, and while it has some vitamin E, thiamin, copper, and B6, it's meaningfully less concentrated in each than sunflower butter is. Strawberry has some vitamin C, but far less per gram than kiwi, and strawberry is a weak vitamin K source by comparison — only a small fraction of what kiwi provides at an equivalent serving size.

In short: peanut butter and strawberry make a good-tasting snack, but kiwi and sunflower butter are doing more deliberate nutritional work — specifically targeting the vitamins and minerals that are otherwise harder to get enough of in a toddler's day, rather than just contributing general fruit-and-nut-butter nutrition.

*Note: this snack does essentially nothing for calcium, vitamin D, B12, iron, iodine, or DHA — those are better covered by other foods in the day's rotation (meat, egg yolk, dairy, fish).*
